Chatbot- Chatbot's are programmed to communicate with users like a human would using natural language processing using text or voice. Siri is an example of a Chatbot.
Generative AI- GenAI uses large data sets to predict the correct answers to questions. It can also create original images, text, assistance and more based on what task it is being asked to complete. It can adapt and change based on preferences of the user. Chat GPT is an example of Generative AI.
Machine Learning AI- Machine Learning is a kind of AI that learns as the user interacts with it. As time passes and it collects more information, the AI becomes more effective. Duolingo is an example of machine learning AI.
AI and Academic Honesty
1. Check with your professor
Some teachers do not allow AI of any kind. Check before you use it because unauthorized use could be considered a violation of the student code of conduct. This could result in getting a zero in the course or a zero on the assignment.
2. Cite AI as a source
If you get ideas, summaries or anything else from AI, cite it just like you would any other source. Purdue University has some great examples of how to cite an AI source.
3. Do not get sources from AI
AI will often make up sources that do not exist. The term for this is hallucinating. Instead, find credible sources for research using library databases (EBSCO, ProQuest).
